he Knights Hospitallers of the Sovereign Order of Saint John, Knights of Malta, is one of the world's oldest orders of chivalry. The Ecumenical Order is more active today than at any time during its continuous long history. The Order's worldwide charitable activities still carry out the unbroken tradition of its founding charter - to care for the sick and the poor, regardless of race, religion, or language.

To all present Knights and Dames of the Sovereign Order of Saint John, the wearing of the Order's symbol, the eight-pointed Maltese Cross, is not a privilege, but rather an obligation to serve humanity.
